“Your deeply held beliefs create your world.”

Have you ever wondered why some goals seem to come together easily while others feel like a constant uphill battle?
The answer might have less to do with willpower—and everything to do with what your brain is prioritizing behind the scenes.
Thats why this week I’m sharing an essay with you from Mind Power Managing Editor Ryan Standifird all about how your priorities influence your actions.
Ryan pulls back the curtain on the invisible system that’s quietly shaping your choices, your focus, and your results every single day. He’ll show you why your brain’s "auto-responder" could be either helping you succeed—or accidentally keeping you stuck—and most importantly, what you can do to shift it.
If you’re ready to align your mind with what you really want, this is a must-read.
I know you’re going to love this!

By Ryan Standifird
There’s no denying that what you focus on determines the results you get in life. And the more time and mental energy you spend on something, the more of it you’ll see.
For example, when you focus on being grateful for the blessings in your life, you’ll experience more happy moments as you go about your day.
On the other hand, if you ruminate on the problems in your life - toxic relationships, a lack of money, or other frustrating situations - then each day can feel like an inescapable struggle.
So how does your brain decide what to focus on (prioritize)?
Well, it turns out that most of it happens unconsciously and automatically based on programming you probably got when you were a child.
This is your brain operating through what late Centerpointe Founder Bill Harris called your Internal Map of Reality.
Your Internal Map of Reality
Every moment of every day, when something happens in your environment, your brain takes that information, compares it to your Internal Map of Reality, and then responds to that stimulus according to what the map says.
For example, imagine encountering a barking dog while you're out for a stroll in your neighborhood. Almost instantly, your brain processes a ton of sensory information and consults your Map of Reality to decide what to do next.
It thumbs through all sorts of stored information about dogs - memories of previous encounters, maybe even stories you've heard about dogs, movies, and of course, any kind of traumatic dog-related experiences from the past.
All of this memory-related information is processed with lightning speed by your brain’s frontal cortex in reaction to seeing this environmental event, ultimately leading to your response.
Values, Beliefs & Priorities
Your brain has to prioritize things quickly in order to respond to the barking dog. How close is the dog? Is the dog off leash?
Your trusty Map can help. See, it's filled with more than just dog-related information. It's also made up of values and beliefs.
Values are what's most important to you. Beliefs are what you believe to be most true.
And together, they can help you prioritize your next move.
But what happens when your values and beliefs get tangled up?
Maybe you're a pet owner yourself, and you realize that this poor dog might just be lost and fearful.
But you also value your safety and you know that an angry dog can be dangerous.
It's possible to have both values at the same time. That's called a "Values Conflict."
So how do you resolve it?
The Brain’s Prioritizer
Fortunately, you do have an ally when it comes to resolving this values conflict of the barking dog.
It's a part of your frontal cortex called your prefrontal cortex (PFC) and it's great at helping you weigh out your options. The PFC is your own personal internal problem-solver. It's the thing that looks at your Map, looks at what's happening, and then helps you make decisions.
The PFC can help your brain identify the priorities - the most important action - you need to take.
Let’s look at how the frontal cortex uses your priorities to influence your working memory.
Working Memory - Opening the Internal Map
In a recent Ohio State University study, scientists wanted to understand how the brain prioritizes working memory - the kind of memory that we use when we are in the middle of solving problems (like the dog incident I mentioned above).
This is essentially the act of opening your internal map and referencing it to respond to your environment in-the-moment.
To learn about what the brain does during this kind of event, the researchers had their subjects hooked up to an fMRI machine while they played a little game. The subjects would be shown a blank screen. Then they were told that two dots would appear, and they had to remember where the dots were so that they could later place them in the correct spots.
But then the scientists told them that the most important dot to remember was the one in the upper-left area of the screen.
By doing this, the scientists created a priority to remember where the top-left dot was. This also meant the subject's Internal Map just got updated with a new value - remembering that dot.
During the game, scientists could see that the frontal cortex was communicating with the visual cortex, giving it additional resources related to the upper-left coroner of the screen. As a result, activity in the visual cortex was more clear and defined related to the priority dot than it was to the other dot.
So it’s no surprise then that the subjects were able to remember and place the priority dot with much more accuracy than the non-priority dot.
By creating a priority, the frontal cortex devotes more resources and attention to that focus point, making it easier to see and remember when engaged with the environment.
Prioritizing Your Life
So, what does this mean for you?
It means your priorities play a huge role in your daily life by determining what you pay attention to.
Your priorities are based on your values, and your values are based on your beliefs.
If you can understand this relationship of how your beliefs form your values and prioritize them to line up with your goals, then you’ll start to automatically use your internal map in the most effective way to get what you want.
When was the last time you took stock of your beliefs and values?
And which values are the most important to you and your goals?
It doesn’t hurt to open up that map and reevaluate every once in a while.
Meditation - especially with Holosync - makes that process much easier.
And if you want a little extra help prioritizing the important things in your life, our team of Accelerated Results Coaches are here for you.
If you have a Holosync collection or course that includes coaching, then there’s no better way to set yourself up for success than to give them a call at least once every few months to check in, reassess your values and priorities, and see if there’s any disconnects that could be keeping you stuck.
Because once your beliefs, values, priorities and actions all line up, you’ll become unstoppable.
