“The process of change—of chaos, breakdown, and reorganization at a higher level—is the most natural thing in the universe. It’s the heartbeat of life, the dance of the universe, the way God unfolds the whole show.
Of course, some people would contend that the whole show is YOU.”- Bill Harris

Most of us think about brain health in terms of memory, focus, or how sharp we feel day-to-day.
But there’s a hidden side of brain health that almost no one talks about…
How your brain deals with its own waste.
That’s why today I’m sharing an enlightening essay from Mind Power Managing Editor Ryan Standifird about how your brain cleans itself - and what you can do to affect that process.
Ryan breaks down how deep sleep and certain meditative brainwave states are the key to a cleaner, healthier brain.
I know you’re going to love this one - especially if you care about staying sharp, aging well or simply feeling better in your own mind.
Cheers,

Your Brain Has a “Cleaning Mode”…
& You Can Intentionally Turn It On
By Ryan Standifird
What comes to mind when you think of your brain health?
Maybe how well you can remember dates and events. Maybe how well you can focus for long periods. Maybe even how quickly you can solve a math problem or read a book.
But here’s something you may not realize about your brain.
Your brain produces waste, every single day.
Every thought you think, every emotion you process, and every decision you make all leave behind metabolic byproducts. Proteins. Cellular debris. The neurological equivalent of smog.
So to address this, your brain has a built-in cleaning system that’s largely powered by the movement of fluid through the brain. This fluid takes all the brain waste and sends it off to be processed in the liver and kidneys.
But unfortunately, not everyone’s brain is able to use this process effectively. As a result, these folks are at a higher risk of cognitive decline and other problems.
So what’s going on there? And is there a way to improve your brain’s ability to clean itself?
The Brain’s Rinse Cycle
For years, researchers have been piecing together how the brain clears waste. A major part of the story involves two fluids.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which bathes the brain and spinal cord
Interstitial fluid, which surrounds brain cells
Together, these fluids help maintain a stable environment for neurons and help flush out metabolic waste.
And during deep sleep, this process cranks up.
Brainwaves slow down. Blood flow patterns shift. And fluid movement becomes more organized, producing large, rhythmic pulses that help move waste out more efficiently.
This is one reason deep sleep is so restorative. It is not just psychological recovery. It is physiological maintenance.
And it is also why poor sleep is increasingly linked with worse brain health over time.
But the reality is, for some folks getting that deep sleep isn’t easy.
So is there something we can do to clean our brains intentionally?
Brainwaves and Brain Fluid Flow
A recent study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences looked at neurofluid circulation during deep meditation.
The researchers recruited advanced meditators who could reliably enter and sustain a specific meditative state on demand.
Inside an MRI scanner, the meditators did two conditions:
Mind wandering (eyes closed, resting baseline resulting in beta & alpha brainwaves)
Focused attention meditation (attention anchored on breath sensations resulting in delta brainwaves)
The researchers focused on the cerebral aqueduct, a narrow canal deep in the brain that serves as a key pathway for CSF flow between chambers. Then, using an MRI, they measured how CSF moved during meditation.
What changed?
When the meditators shifted into the focused attention state:
Overall CSF flow through the aqueduct decreased
But the important detail was how it decreased
The reduction was driven by less backward, regurgitant flow
In plain English, the fluid movement became more efficient and coherent when it came to the cleaning process.
The study also showed slow rhythmic fluctuations in CSF signals that resemble the low frequency, sleep linked pulsations seen during deep non REM sleep.
The Role of Delta Brainwaves
Now, let’s connect this to delta pattern brainwaves.
Deep non REM sleep is characterized by slow delta brainwave activity (roughly 1 to 4 Hz). This slow wave activity is tightly linked with the large, coordinated waves of blood and CSF flow that appear to support waste clearance.
In other words, delta is not just a “sleep signature.”
It is an essential part of a whole body, whole brain rhythm of restoration.
And that’s huge because that means that a deep “delta-wave” meditative state can trigger that brain-cleaning process, even without being asleep!
The Secret to a “Cleaner” Brain
Do you remember the first time you tried to meditate? I do.
I sat down, closed my eyes, and my brain said, “Oh great, some free time to work on all of my problems.”
It’s no surprise that I gave up on meditation after just one try.
And that’s totally normal.
It usually takes years of practice to develop the skill to settle the mind, stabilize attention and enter those very deep, master-level meditative states (like the one from the study).
That’s why Holosync is such a game-changer.
Instead of putting in years of training, Holosync neuro-audio technology guides the brain into those deeper brainwave patterns like delta automatically. No learning curve necessary.
And that means that every time you use Holosync to meditate into a deep delta state, you’re also activating your brain’s cleaning system, helping to cleanse the waste by-products in the brain.
Where to Start
So, how can you keep your brain clean and healthy?
It starts by making meditation - especially with Holosync - a daily habit.
Because as the science continues to show us, meditation gives your brain a ton of benefits. But those benefits don’t come from a one-and-done deep meditation session.
They come when you do it consistently. When you make it a part of your lifestyle.
When you meditate every day, you’re relieving stress, you’re strengthening the prefrontal cortex, you’re balancing your neurochemicals…
And now we know you’re cleaning out brain waste, too.
So keep it simple.
Pick a time you can actually stick to. Same time every day. Start with one week of consistent practice. Then try for two. Then a month. And keep going.
Before you know it, you’ll start looking forward to this part of your day.
Dream Shout-Out
Before I go, I wanted to let you know that this Wednesday we’re releasing one of the most exciting Holosync suites ever - and it’s all about sleep and dreaming.
It’s called Dream Alchemy, and it contains Holosync tools for lucid dreaming, dream recall, healing dreams, and deep restorative sleep.
One of the tracks, Dream Tranquility, features a deep delta brainwave state meditation for folks who struggle with nightmares, night terrors, and other stress sleep problems. These issues keep you from accessing that deep delta sleep state where brain cleansing occurs.
So if you ever wake up in the morning feeling like you got hit by a bus, or you didn’t get the sleep you needed, you probably didn’t get enough of that deep state sleep.
My recommendation: give Dream Tranquility a try.
It was designed specifically to help you reach those deeper level states for better sleep. We even made sure that it’s safe for kids to use if they struggle with bad dreams.
It’s just one more powerful tool you can use to improve your brain - and your life.

This Really Happened
I think I can breathe deeper, more easily which is nice too. It’s been quite a long time that I've been feeling not my true self. I’ve dealt with a lot of grief for a long time and it seems like that’s all I’ve done and that’s what I’ve been consciously working on for a few years; letting go of grief and learning how to raise my vibration so that I can be, do and have more of a life that I want!
